Install a snapshot

Newt does not have versioned releases yet. The download page provides development snapshots built from a specific source commit.

Download the DMG for your Mac’s architecture, open it, and move Newt into Applications.

Download and run the MSI package matching your system architecture.

Newt requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. The MSI checks for it but does not download it; if the prerequisite is missing, install the runtime from the link shown by the installer and then run the MSI again.

Choose either the AppImage or a package built for your distribution. Current packaging covers Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch Linux on the architectures shown on the download page.

Newt uses the system GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1 libraries. The AppImage is deliberately slim and requires those libraries on the host rather than bundling them.

Published snapshot metadata includes the source commit and SHA-256 checksum for each package. Compare the downloaded file against the checksum shown on the download page before installing it on a sensitive machine.
